James Lamsdell's
Eurypterids.co.uk

First of all, I welcome you to the site, I hope you enjoy your stay. I'll use this first post to quickly set out what my intentions are for this site.

First and foremost I aim to promote knowledge and understanding of palaeontology and an interest in eurypterids.

Eurypterids as a group seem ideally suited to capturing the public interested, as happened recently with the description of the largest known arthropod by Braddy et al. in Biology Letters. Some of these animals grew to a considerable size, were highly predatory and boasted an array of claws, spines and spiked tails. The appearance on programs such as Walking with beasts of Megalograptus and Pterygotus, two of the iconic eurypterid predators, showcases their appeal.

The main aim of this site is to provide an easily-accessable resource for people interested in eurypterids, either as
a research aid or purely as a method for sating personal interest. The major item of interest shall probably be the taxonomic encyclopedia, which I aim to keep updated as systematic revisions occur. Eventually the aim is for every
genus of eurypterid to have its own page complete with species list, diagnosis, locality information and any pertinent remarks. In time I shall also add sections on well-known eurypterid localities, providing information on
palaeoenvironment, preservation and co-occurence.

Jaekelopterus, ther largest known arthropod

I also hope to expand a bit beyond eurypterids, providing information on xiphosurans, chasmataspids and scorpions, and shall be approaching other researchers about contributing towards these new sections. I will also continue to update sections on my research and write occassional articles on aspects of palaeontology or on particular areas of interest to me.

In the mean time if there is anything you would like to see on this site, or have anything you wish to contribute, please contact me. I'd love to hear from you.

Cheers,
James
